2-Day Paediatric First Aid Course

Practical training for people responsible for very small humans with very big ideas.

Children are wonderfully curious—and remarkably talented at finding imaginative ways to bump, trip, fall or put something where it definitely should not be.

Our two-day Paediatric First Aid course gives childcare professionals the practical skills and confidence to respond safely when a baby or child becomes injured or suddenly unwell.

Delivered by experienced trainers from emergency-service backgrounds, the course is practical, engaging and aligned with the full Paediatric First Aid criteria within the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework for England.

The EYFS requires at least one person with a current, full Paediatric First Aid certificate to be available whenever children are present and to accompany children on outings. Settings should consider their number of children, staffing arrangements and premises when deciding how many qualified team members they need.

What will learners cover?

The course includes demonstrations, practical activities and realistic scenarios covering:

Emergency life-saving skills

• Assessing and safely managing an emergency
• Checking and monitoring a baby or child
• CPR for babies and children
• Using an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• Helping an unresponsive casualty
• Responding to seizures and febrile convulsions
• Treating choking
• Controlling serious bleeding and treating shock

Injuries and accidents

• Burns and scalds
• Fractures and suspected spinal injuries
• Head, neck and back injuries
• Eye and ear injuries
• Foreign objects in the eyes, ears or nose
• Bites and stings
• Electrical incidents and poisoning
• Hypothermia and heat-related illness

Childhood illnesses and medical emergencies

• Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
• Asthma attacks
• Diabetic emergencies
• Meningitis and other serious childhood illnesses
• Recognising when urgent medical help is required

Responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

• Preventing cross-infection
• Understanding appropriate first-aid equipment
• Checking and maintaining first-aid kits
• Recording and reporting accidents
• Communicating with parents, carers and emergency services

Our focus is on developing practical confidence. Learners will leave knowing how to respond—not simply hoping they can remember which PowerPoint slide mentioned it.

Assessment and certification

The course combines theory with plenty of practical learning using baby and child resuscitation equipment.

Learners are continuously assessed through demonstrations, scenarios and participation, so there is no intimidating final examination.

Those who successfully demonstrate the required knowledge and practical skills will receive a Paediatric First Aid certificate valid for three years. Settings should also consider annual refresher training to help staff maintain their skills and remain confident.

Working towards Millie’s Mark?

Millie’s Mark recognises childcare settings that go above and beyond the minimum requirements for paediatric first aid.

Having your whole team appropriately trained can support your setting’s journey towards Millie’s Mark and provide additional reassurance to parents and carers. The accreditation has further criteria and an application process, so training every member of staff does not automatically guarantee the award.

Course prices

• Up to 12 learners: From £1,250
• Larger groups of up to 24 learners: From £2,050
• Individual place: £180 per learner

Group rates apply to bookings of seven or more learners. Prices include certification and a course manual, with no additional course fees.

A 20% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining balance payable at least two weeks before the course begins.
