Fire Safety and Fire Awareness Training

Fire safety that actually sticks—for all the right reasons.

Fire safety should never be a tick-box exercise, and training should involve more than pointing at the nearest exit and hoping everyone remembers it.

Our practical and engaging fire-safety courses give employees the knowledge and confidence to prevent fires, respond appropriately and evacuate safely. Training is delivered by experienced instructors with emergency-service and fire-service backgrounds, bringing genuine operational knowledge into the classroom.

Choose the Right Course

Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness

Designed for all employees, including new starters requiring fire-safety training as part of their workplace induction.

  • Duration: Four hours
  • Level: Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness
  • Previous experience: None required
  • Minimum age: 14 years
  • Maximum group size: 16 learners
  • Assessment: Short test paper
  • Location: Your workplace or another suitable venue

This course provides a clear introduction to how fires start, how they spread and what employees should do if one occurs.

Level 2 Fire Safety

Designed for employees taking on additional fire-safety responsibilities, including:

  • Fire wardens
  • Fire marshals
  • Fire stewards
  • Supervisors and team leaders
  • Employees assisting with workplace fire-safety arrangements

Course details:

  • Duration: Six hours
  • Level: Level 2 Fire Safety
  • Previous experience: None required
  • Minimum age: 14 years
  • Maximum group size: 16 learners
  • Assessment: Test paper
  • Location: Your workplace or another suitable venue

Learners under 16 can complete either qualification but cannot take responsibility for a workplace fire-safety role until they reach 16. Employers remain responsible for deciding whether an individual is suitable for that role.

What Will Learners Cover?

Understanding Fire

  • Common causes of workplace fires
  • How fires start and develop
  • The behaviour and spread of fire
  • Workplace fire hazards and risks
  • The potential impact on people, property and business continuity

Fire Prevention

  • How workplace fire risks can be controlled
  • Good housekeeping and safe working practices
  • Reducing ignition sources and combustible materials
  • The importance of fire doors, escape routes and safety signage
  • Individual fire-safety responsibilities

Responding to a Fire

  • Raising the alarm
  • What to do when a fire is discovered
  • Contacting the emergency services
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
  • Helping people leave safely
  • Assembly points and roll calls
  • Why re-entering the building to collect your phone is generally considered a poor career move

Fire Extinguishers

  • Different types of fire extinguishers
  • Selecting the correct extinguisher
  • How extinguishers are used
  • When it may be safe to tackle a very small fire
  • When to leave immediately and let the professionals take over

Extinguishers can be extremely useful, but they are not an invitation to audition for an action film. Raising the alarm and evacuating safely must always remain the priority.

Additional Level 2 Content

The Level 2 course develops learners’ understanding of workplace fire-safety management and the responsibilities of nominated fire wardens and marshals.

It includes:

  • The role and responsibilities of a fire warden
  • Supporting safe evacuations
  • Checking designated workplace areas
  • Recognising and reporting fire hazards
  • Assisting people who may require additional support
  • Understanding workplace fire-safety procedures
  • Supporting drills and emergency arrangements
  • The principles of workplace fire-safety management

Practical, Relevant Training

Where the venue and arrangements allow, courses can include practical extinguisher familiarisation and workplace-specific evacuation discussions.

Training can be adapted around your organisation’s environment, procedures and risks. A school, warehouse, office and wildlife park may all need fire-safety training—but they are unlikely to have identical evacuation plans.

We can also help complete a training needs analysis to ensure your employees receive the right level of training for their responsibilities.

Assessment and Certification

Both regulated qualification routes include a test paper. Learners must successfully complete the assessment to receive the relevant Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.

Training should be supported by your organisation’s own:

  • Fire risk assessment
  • Emergency procedures
  • Evacuation drills
  • Staff induction
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans, where required

The course does not replace your site-specific fire procedures. We teach people what to do; your organisation still needs to show them where to go.

Workplace Group Bookings

Courses can be delivered at your workplace or another suitable venue, subject to a straightforward pre-course venue assessment.

Group bookings are available for up to 16 learners per course. Please contact us for a tailored quotation based on the course level, location and number of employees requiring training.

Not Sure Which Course You Need?

Choose Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness for general employees requiring essential workplace fire-safety knowledge.

Choose Level 2 Fire Safety for employees taking on additional responsibilities as fire wardens, marshals or stewards.

Still unsure? Contact us and we will help identify the most appropriate option—without setting fire to your training budget.
