2-Day First Aid at Work Requalification Course

Refresh your skills, renew your qualification and avoid starting again from day one. 

First-aid knowledge can fade over time—particularly the parts you thankfully haven’t needed to use.

Our two-day First Aid at Work Requalification course refreshes learners’ knowledge, rebuilds practical confidence and renews an eligible First Aid at Work qualification for a further three years.

Delivered by experienced trainers from emergency-service backgrounds, the course is practical, engaging and designed to get experienced first aiders confidently back up to standard.

Course at a glance

• Who can attend: Current or eligible recently expired First Aid at Work certificate holders
• Minimum age: 14 years old
• Group size: Maximum of 12 learners per course group

• Location: Delivered at your venue on dates that suit your team

Learners under 16 can complete the qualification but cannot take responsibility as a workplace first aider until they reach 16. The employer must then decide whether they are suitable for that responsibility.

Who should attend?

This course is for people who already hold a three-day First Aid at Work qualification and need to renew it.

It covers the full First Aid at Work syllabus in a condensed two-day format, allowing experienced first aiders to refresh their knowledge without completing the full three-day course again.

Is your certificate still eligible?

Nuco’s requalification rules are:

• Certificate still valid or expired by no more than one month: You can attend the two-day requalification course without additional conditions.
• Expired by more than one month but no more than three months: You may still attend if special considerations are accepted. This may involve evidence from your employer or a decision by the training provider that you have sufficient previous experience.
• Expired by more than three months: You must complete the full three-day First Aid at Work course again.

We will confirm each learner’s eligibility before the course begins.

Important: As soon as a First Aid at Work certificate expires, the holder is no longer considered qualified to act as a workplace first aider. We therefore strongly recommend booking requalification before the expiry date—because certificates are far easier to renew before they become expensive pieces of historical paperwork.

What will learners cover?

The course refreshes the complete First Aid at Work syllabus, including:

Responsibilities and emergency response

• First-aid legalities, responsibilities and reporting
• Assessing and safely managing an incident
• Examining and monitoring a casualty
• Helping an unresponsive casualty
• Resuscitation, CPR and using an AED
• Responding to choking

Injuries and trauma

• Controlling serious bleeding
• Shock, including anaphylaxis
• Bandaging and wound care
• Fractures and suspected spinal injuries
• Head and chest injuries
• Sprains and strains
• Burns and scalds
• Eye injuries
• Poisoning

Serious illnesses and medical emergencies

• Heart attacks
• Strokes
• Epilepsy and seizures
• Asthma attacks
• Diabetic emergencies
• Recognising when urgent medical assistance is required

The course combines trainer-led discussions, demonstrations and realistic scenarios, with plenty of opportunities to practise the skills first aiders may not have used since their original qualification.

Course delivery

The course includes a minimum of 12 training and assessment hours delivered over at least two days.

Ideally, the course should run over two consecutive days. However, delivery can be arranged more flexibly where required, provided:

• The course is completed within six weeks of starting
• Each training session lasts for at least two hours
• All required learning and assessment activities are completed

Assessment and certification

Learners are assessed through practical activities conducted throughout the course and written assessment papers completed on both days.

Those who successfully demonstrate the required knowledge and practical competence will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work, valid for three years.

Annual refresher training is strongly recommended during the three-year certification period to help learners maintain their confidence and practical skills.

Requalification or annual refresher?

These are two different courses:

• The two-day requalification course renews an eligible First Aid at Work qualification for another three years.
• The half-day annual refresher helps first aiders maintain their skills between qualifications but does not renew or extend their certificate.

Course prices

• Up to 12 learners: From £1,150
• Larger groups of up to 24 learners: From £1,960, subject to appropriate additional trainer provision
• Individual place: £160 per learner

Group rates apply to bookings of seven or more learners. Prices include certification and a course manual, with no additional course fees.

A 20% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining balance payable at least two weeks before the course begins.
