Emergencies are famously bad at making appointments. Our three-day First Aid at Work course gives learners the practical skills, knowledge and confidence to respond effectively when someone becomes injured or seriously unwell.

This comprehensive course meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and is suitable for workplaces where a first-aid needs assessment identifies the need for fully qualified First Aiders at Work.

Course at a Glance

• Qualification: Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work
• Duration: 18 hours delivered over at least three days
• Minimum age: 14 years
• Maximum group size: 12 learners per trainer
• Location: Delivered at your workplace or suitable venue
• Certification: Valid for three years
• Assessment: Practical and written assessments throughout the course

Learners under 16 may complete the qualification but cannot take responsibility as a workplace first aider until they reach 16. Employers are responsible for deciding whether an individual is suitable for the role.

Emergency Response and Responsibilities

• The legal responsibilities of a workplace first aider
• Reporting and recording incidents
• Assessing an emergency safely
• Managing an unresponsive casualty
• Resuscitation and CPR
• Recognising and treating choking

Injuries and Trauma

• Controlling bleeding
• Recognising and treating shock
• Severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
• Applying bandages and dressings
• Fractures and spinal injuries
• Head and chest injuries
• Eye injuries
• Burns and scalds
• Sprains and strains
• Poisoning

Serious Medical Conditions

• Heart attacks
• Strokes
• Epilepsy and seizures
• Diabetes
• Asthma

The course is practical and engaging, giving learners plenty of opportunities to practise their skills. Because first aid is something you need to be able to do—not simply something you once watched on a slide.

Course Delivery

The qualification includes a minimum of 18 hours of training delivered over at least three days.

The course is normally delivered across three consecutive days. Flexible delivery may also be available, provided the full course is completed within ten weeks and each training session lasts at least two hours.

On-site courses are subject to a straightforward pre-course venue assessment to ensure there is enough safe and suitable space for practical training.

Assessment and Certification

Assessment includes:

• Practical assessment throughout each day
• A written assessment on each day
• Active participation in the practical elements of the course

Learners who successfully complete the assessments receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work, valid for three years.

Annual refresher training is recommended to keep skills current and confidence high. After all, a certificate can sit quietly in a drawer for three years—CPR skills are less cooperative.

Before the qualification expires, learners can normally renew it by completing the two-day First Aid at Work Requalification course, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.

Individual Places

• £220 per person

Course prices include training, assessment, certification and a course manual. There are no surprise extras waiting to leap out of the first-aid kit.

A 20% deposit secures your booking, with the remaining balance due at least two weeks before the course begins.
